“For three months, I stayed with and waited on my husband who was dying of cancer at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital. I found a Gideon placed Holy Bible on the dresser in the hospital and began to read it as my husband slept.
There is absolutely nothing like the Word of the Lord! It spoke to my heart in this time of great need. I found comfort, faith and salvation.
By the time I read through the Gospel of John, I had accepted Christ as my personal Savior. My husband accepted the Lord as his Savior through the 23rd Psalm, which I read to him two weeks before he died. And on the day he went to be with the Lord, God comforted me with Psalm 34, especially verse 4: ‘I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.’
I am indeed grateful for the Bibles which are placed by Gideons everywhere—in hospitals, in hotels, in doctors’ offices, in prisons—for the Word of God does not return void. Praise His wonderful name!”
